If you go to Ottawa, you have to stop at Moulin de Provence. That’s the name of this fantastic bakery that has become popular in February 2009 when Us president Barack Obama made a quick stop and bought some maple leaf cookies for his wife and daughters. Recently, when I was in Ottawa I went to this bakery that is in the heart of the beautiful Byward market. Let’s say it. Obama made their fortune! He bought three of these cookies and they instantly became best-sellers. In that period the bakery sold more than 2,000 cookies a day, somewhat more than the 200 or 250 cookies they used to sell each week! After Obama’s pit stop they changed their name from “maple leaf cookies” in “Obama cookies” and the bakery became one of the famous attractions of the capital. Their shape is a maple leaf with “Canada” written on them. With the exclamation “I love this Country!”, Obama warmed the hearts of every Canadian on that cold February afternoon. And these cookies definitely warmed mine!
